Catherine MacLellan’s (PEI) - Catherine MacLellan’s star has long been rising in North America. Voted Critics Favourite New Discovery by Penguin Eggs Magazine in 2008, her previous record Water in the Ground reached out to expand her already loyal fan base as she toured in support of legendary artists including Bruce Cockburn and Steve Forbert. She held her own, showcasing in Boston, Berlin, Cannes, Memphis, New York, London, and Paris. Her recently released album Silhouette has been garnering rave reviews. (A particularly sweet note on Silhouette is the penultimate track “Snowbird”, her cover version of the most lauded song ever written by her father, Gene MacLellan). Her growing recognition is allowing her to step out of her famous father's shadow, and present an icon like 'Snowbird' in her own wonderful way. Catherine has been called "that terrific voice from the east coast" and we are delighted to present her.

ALLEN & ALEXANDER (Jenny Allen & Leslie Alexander) These Alberta-native songwriters first joined forces last winter when the pair found themselves onstage singing with Jane Siberry on her famous encore “Calling All Angels.” Now sharing vocals, multiple instruments, and a past, Allen & Alexander agree that their set list, a combination of original material and select covers from each artist, contains their most personal songs yet - exchanged like a salty heart-to-heart over a load of laundry.

FEBRUARY 11, 2012 THE STEEL WHEELS (Virginia) The Steel Wheels are truly an Americana band, rooted in musical styles that range from blues and bluegrass to old‑time sing‑alongs and foot‑stompin' fiddle tunes. They are subtle innovators who respect the past but whistle their own tunes. 2010 was a breakout year for The Steel Wheels with 5 nominations from the Independent Music Awards and numerous placements on "best of the year" lists. The four‑piece band is based in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, where lead singer Trent Wagler has been a scene staple for nearly a decade. Multi‑instrumentalist Jay Lapp was touring with several bands when he and Wagler crossed paths and a musical partnership began. The two are joined by upright bassist Brian Dickel and fiddler Eric Brubaker.

MARCH 03, 2012 TWINBILL: RUSSELL deCARLE TRIO (Ontario) Russell deCarle is a Canadian music icon as the lead vocalist for the six time Juno Award winning country roots group, Prairie Oyster, and was an inductee into the Canadian Hall of Honour in 2009. Now Russell deCarle offers something a little different in his trio format. Apart from switching to guitar from bass, deCarle plays some songs “that didn’t necessarily work for Oyster”. Expect a little R&B, some western swing and a few other things and definitely expect a more relaxed & mellow style of music.

MARCH 24, 2012 “MEMPHIS MEMORIES III”:
THE BURNS SISTERS (New York) with ANDREW HARDIN (Texas) You can think about the Burns Sisters in descriptive terms ‑ powerful songs, gorgeous sibling harmony, a distinctive blend of folk, country, and rock styles ‑ but their essence is soul. Marie, Jeannie and Annie Burns have been singing together all their lives, and their music follows an inner path known by heart. Their music is filled with warmth and conviction and they sing with the authority of a band that knows its place and is comfortable there. For this performance, they will be joined by guitarist-extraordinaire, Andrew Hardin.

APRIL 14, 2012 TWIN BILL: JOHN WORT HANNAM DUO (Alberta) It has only been a few years since John Wort Hannam left his day job and started supporting himself with his music. Two years later, he won a major song writing prize at the Calgary Folk Festival, and has been winning awards regularly ever since. This tells you a little bit about the kind of no‑nonsense confidence that comes through in Hannam's music; gritty, four‑chord‑truth‑telling. With nods to Hank Williams, and others, Hannam pairs simple melodies with lyrics that quietly and unsentimentally illuminate everyday heroes. John will be joined by Scott Duncan.

BETTYSOO & DOUG COX (Texas/British Columbia) Words like "brilliant", "stunning", and "virtuoso" are used to describe Doug Cox’s playing - similar words could be used to describe BettySoo’s singing and song writing, so I guess it’s not surprising they have been brought together. They call it,’ Across The Borderline’ - the girl from Texas with the great voice and songs and the guy from Vancouver Island with the magic musicianship; sort of Austin meets Tsawwassen (sorry). Whatever it is - we call it great.
